Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Nonprofit Organization to Resolve Refugee Conflicts”

In this activity, students research and design solutions to resolve refugee crises all over the world.

Pretend you are forming a nonprofit organization to resolve refugee conflicts all over the world. Describe what your organization intends to resolve and how you will go about resolving the issue. Use examples from Doaa’s experience to justify your organization. Promote your organization using posterboard or media to present your ideas to others. Use the questions below to guide your thinking.

  • What is your nonprofit organization’s name, logo, and location?
  • What is the primary focus of your organization?
  • How will you advertise your organization and create awareness of it overseas?
  • What is your organization’s motto?
  • How will your organization assist refugees in acclimating to their new environment?
  • How will you provide transportation, housing, visa applications, medical provision, and other resources to help refugees?

Present your organization to the class. Once others have presented, compare purposes and goals of the various organizations created.

Teaching Suggestion: Ideally, students might have access to media such as slideshow software or web developer tools to promote their organization.
